In case you didn’t know, lavender is very easy to grow and care for. It’s hearty and requires little maintenance.
That’s why I want to add more to our front garden.
Then you can cut some and dry it for a gorgeous floral arrangement for your home.
This sun hat summer vase is the perfect place to display those beautiful arrangements. It’s super easy to make and when you use dried or faux flowers, it’s super easy to keep clean too.

Hot Glue Gun
Step 1 – Unravel Sun Hat
First, start by unraveling the sun hat. To do this, start pulling at the outer edge and it will become undone in a long strip. Unravel almost all of the brim of the hat.
I used the excess leftover from How to Make a Basket from a Dollar Store Sun Hat to make this vase.
Step 2 – Trim and Attach Sun Hat Strip to Vase
Next, place your vase upside down on your work surface and wrap your strip around the bottom of the vase. Make sure that it slightly overlaps and then trim the the measured piece from the long strip.
The bottom piece will be the toughest to get on the vase but have patience.
Add a small strip of the hot glue to the vase and press the measured strip of the sun hat to the vase. Be sure to protect your fingers because the glue comes through the small holes in the hat material. You don’t want to burn your fingers.
Step 3 – Continue Covering Vase
Once you have the first piece on, flip your vase over so that the opening is on the top. It is easier to add the rest of your strips this way.
Keep measuring the strips and adding them until you reach the top.
I added some extra glue to the top so that it would stick better but also leave a little extra on the top so it looked more like a basket.
Step 4 – Style and Enjoy
After your sun hat summer vase is finished, add some pretty florals and enjoy your new home décor.
Tips and Tricks
If you have trouble getting the brim of your hat to loosen, you can also cut into it and then it will start to unravel easily.
You can use live flowers in this vase because the decoration is on the outside. However, be very gentle when cleaning it because you don’t want the decoration coming off.
Lightly dust the outside of the vase to keep clean. Do not get the outside wet and don’t scrub it.
