Printable How to Make a Basket Tutorial
Have you seen the adorable sun hats at your local Dollar Tree? Next time, pick one up to turn into an awesome decorative basket for your home.
It is seriously easy to make and you can style it to fit your décor style with a few flowers or even decorative orbs (which you can also totally find at the Dollar Tree)!

Materials for How to Make a Basket
Dollar Tree Cork Ribbon
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun

Step 1 – Unravel Your Hat
First, pull the ribbon off of the sun hat.
Then start unraveling the sun hat from the brim. To do this, pull at the outer edge and it starts to come undone in a long strip.
Unravel the sun hat until you reach the part that would go over your head.

Step 2 – Trim and Even the Hat
Cut the unraveled end off and then trim the hat so that it is fairly even.

Now, flip over the hat so that it looks like a bowl.
Hold on to the piece that you unravel for another project!

Step 3 – Make Handles
Lastly, cut two 4-5 inch sections of your cork ribbon based on how big you want the handles.

Then use your hot glue gun add a dab of glue to both ends and attach them to the hat.

Style your basket as desired and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks
If pulling doesn’t loosen the edge of the brim on your hat, you can also cut into it with scissors and then it will start to unravel.
Keep in mind that this basket is decorative. The hot glued handles will not be durable enough for heavy lifting.
I recommend styling it for a vignette as I did, or using it as a small catchall for keys, sunglasses, and other small items.
