New Years Spinner Card Tutorial Small Button

Raise your hand if you didn’t get those Christmas cards out this year (again). Don’t worry. Me either.

What about instead of putting unnecessary pressure on yourself you send out cards to celebrate something we are all hopeful about this month: 2021!

This printable card is super easy way to spread cheer after the hectic Christmas shenanigans. It’s so pretty and festive that it’ll instantly bring cheer to friends and family.

Materials for New Years Spinner Card

  • Printable Card Elements

  • Cardstock

  • Small, sharp scissors (I absolutely love these ones)

  • Tape

  • Glue/Glue stick

  • Clear or White thread

  • Ruler

Optional Supplies

  • Bone Folder

  • Glitter

  • Foam Adhesive Dots

Step 1

First, print both printable card element sheets on cardstock.

To download, click on the link. When it comes up in your browser, click on the “download” button in the top right of the page.

Step 2

Next, cut sheet 1 in half, along the dotted line. This is the sheet with the outer part of the card and the pink spinner opening part for the inside.

Step 3

Then, fold and crease the bottom part of the sheet in half to form the card base. A bone folder comes in very handy for getting sharp creases.

Step 4

After your card base is folded, cut out the rectangle portion from the top of the sheet along the cut lines.

Fold it in half and then fold each end toward the middle fold, forming a W shape. See the photo above for reference.

This piece will go inside of the card.

Step 6

Then cut out both New Year’s Balls and the other decorations from the second printed sheet.

Step 7

Now coat the back side of one of the balls with glue.

Step 8

Next, cut an 8” length of thread from your spool.

Step 9

Place the thread in the middle of the ball with glue on it, evenly adhering it to the very middle. Then place the other ball (without the glue) exactly on top of it and firmly press together.

Make sure that both balls are oriented the same way up and that you can read “2021” no matter which way the ball is turned.

If wanted, this is where you add glitter to your ball. If you do, make sure the adhesive that you use to apply it is completely dry before moving on.

Step 10

Now flip the inner card over, with the wrong side (blank side) facing up.

Step 11

Then carefully position the New Year’s Ball in the very center of the cut out circle.

Step 12

Place the length of each end of the thread along the middle crease of the back side of the inner card.

Tape the thread down inside the crease, using scotch tape. Then trim any extra thread and/or tape.

Step 13

Using a ruler, measure 1″ to 1.25″ from each outer edge of the card base. Mark these measurements lightly with a pencil.

Step 14

Using this mark as a guide, position the inner card onto the inside of the card base, 1″ to 1.25″ from each side. Then erase the pencil marks.

Step 15

Next, glue the outer sections of it down. Be sure to leave the inner portion (with spinning ball) free of glue.

Step 16

Now add the remaining decorations to your card wherever you like. Just be sure they do not get in the way of any of the folded creases so that your card folds properly.

You can glue these down or to make them pop like they do in the photo, use foam adhesive dots to elevate them slightly off of the card.

Step 17

Lastly, to get the ball to spin, carefully twist it several times in 1 direction before closing the card.
